Russia and the BRICS
G oldman Sachs forecasted in 2001 that a group of developing and newly industrialized countries would come to dominate Western economies. Since then, those countries' economies have exploded, altering the global political landscape. The acronym BRIC refers to the countries of Brazil, Russia, India, and China , all of which are considered developing countries at a similar stage of newly advanced economic development on their way to becoming developed countries. It is commonly referred to as "the BRIC," "the BRIC countries," "the BRIC economies," or the "Big Four." After the addition of South Africa in 2010, the name was changed to BRICS.
