Russia and the BRICS

Goldman Sachs forecasted in 2001 that a group of developing and newly industrialized countries would come to dominate Western economies. Since then, those countries' economies have exploded, altering the global political landscape. The acronym BRIC refers to the countries of Brazil, Russia, India, and China, all of which are considered developing countries at a similar stage of newly advanced economic development on their way to becoming developed countries. It is commonly referred to as "the BRIC," "the BRIC countries," "the BRIC economies," or the "Big Four." After the addition of South Africa in 2010, the name was changed to BRICS.

BRICS is an important grouping that brings together the world's major emerging economies, accounting for 42% of the global population, 23% of global GDP, and more than 16% of global trade. Over the years, the BRICS countries have been the primary engines of global economic growth.

Russia currently holds the rotating presidency of both the BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), which is made up of Eurasian countries that collaborate on military, political, and economic issues. The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has had global ramifications. The supply and prices of major commodity markets (oil, gas, platinum, gold, and silver) have been significantly influenced. Because of the ongoing conflict, financial markets around the world have seen a strong dynamic in commodity prices. As a result, commodity prices are intimately connected to the stock market. Accordingly, appropriate connectivity among the five major commodity markets, as well as the G7 and BRIC markets, may benefit investors in their decision-making processes during the Russian-Ukraine conflict. The economic implications of Russia and Ukraine conflict are the top on the agenda of BRICS meeting. The leaders of the BRICS countries, Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa, will face a critical dilemma in determining a common stance on the Russian-Ukraine conflict.

The end of the war should give new meaning to the UN's original mission of promoting human rights and universal values. The world body's unique combination of bureaucratization, weakness, superpower difference and indifference, and ineptitude has resulted in ideals being dumbed down in the interests of incumbents rather than their citizens.

Against this backdrop, Ukraine has the potential to be a Brics meeting point. It could be an opportunity for the group to persuade the world that it can compete financially with Western-led institutions like the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund.

As a result, concrete announcements on financial help and increased investment in the Brics-led New Development Bank should be expected. Analysts believe that this would be a move in the right direction for the Brics to gain more power as a serious global actor.

Total casualties from the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022

Due to the current circumstances, Ukraine is facing a food crisis in multiple cities, including Mariupol, with few to no options for bringing in fresh supplies. This food crisis is part of a larger economic battle precipitated by Russia's invasion of Ukraine. The problem will not be restricted to Ukraine; it will also have a significant impact on other Eastern European nations, since prices will rise in the short term and shortages will worsen in the long run.

  1. BRICS could be the better alternative for global stability compared the west NATO and the European Union. According to the BRICS summit of 2022 ,they are making a new business alliance among their country not relying or being exposed to Western influence and the Asia will surely gain both side benefits on this.
